Don't forget there's a fun maze to explore!

You are not alone

Divorce may make you feel different from your friends. But you're still you, no matter who you live with. It might help to remember that you are not the only one whose parents are divorced. In Australia in 2003 there were almost 50,000 children whose families divorced. That is a lot! In your school class there are probably lots of children whose parents have separated - they may not have told you about it.

Other kids might tease you about being from a separated family. That's about their own stuff and not about you. A separated family is still a family and kids from these families are no different to any other kids. Sometimes they are better off, specially when parents are fighting badly when they live together.

If your feelings are getting worse, or others are being mean and stopping you from doing things you want to do, ask for help.

  • Talk to the counsellor at your school
  • Tell other friends and ask them to support you
  • Tell or write a note to your teacher and ask him or her to do something about it, as others like you are possibly suffering too
  • Talk to your parents
  • Tell your brothers, sisters or a cousin, grandparent, aunty or uncle - someone you like and trust
  • Ring Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 and talk over the phone to someone who will listen to you and understand what you are going through.
