
What is Domestic and Family Violence?
Domestic and Family Violence can include different forms of behaviour, such as:
Physical Abuse
- physical contact, such as pushing, shoving, assault, murder
- object damage, such as punching holes in walls, throwing or breaking objects
- violence against family pets
Sexual Abuse
- sexual assault/rape
- forced to participate in acts
Verbal/Emotional Abuse
- putdowns and name calling
- threats and intimidation
- mind games, such as making the other person believe they are imagining things
Social Violence
- constantly checking up on someone
- isolation from friends/family
- restricting phone contact with others
Economic Violence
- making all decisions around money
- keeping someone poor
- controlling money and asking for proof, such as receipts
Spiritual Violence
- use of religious texts to justify violence
- denying access or forcing involvement in a faith community
- use of religious beliefs as a means of control
