Domestic & Family Violence
Family Violence in Australia

Statistics nationally and internationally show that family violence is a common experience for many people. The statistics show that women are much more likely to experience violence and abuse than men. Most family violence and abuse in heterosexual relationships is perpetrated by men towards women. However, family violence also occurs in gay and lesbian relationships.

Research shows that in Australia between one in three and one in four women and one in six men are the victims of family violence. Often people who experience Family Violence feel isolated and embarrassed about what is happening to them. They feel they are the only ones and that it doesn't happen in other families. The high numbers show that this is not true. Many people experience a similar injustice - talking about it can be helpful for yourself and others.

Family Violence is always wrong
- no matter where you are.
