Talking about your feelings

When you are growing up many things change - your body changes and the way you think and feel about yourself sometimes changes too. Maybe you are finding that its becoming more difficult to talk things through with people. Reasons for this can be:

  1. Maybe you are more confident and feel that you don't need to talk about what's going on to others anymore.
  2. Maybe you feel distant to your parents and find it difficult to relate to them at the moment.
  3. Maybe you can't think of another person to talk to or feel too shy or nervous to share your feelings with others.
  4. Maybe you want to make your own decisions now and don't need other people's help or advice.

However sometimes it can be important to talk to someone about what's happening for you. This can be especially important when you have unhappy or angry feelings that last for a long time and get in the way of the normal things in your life.

There are many people that you can talk to, for example your teacher, your parents or another trusted family member or neighbour, your doctor, your friends, counsellor, social worker or a psychologist.
